5 Netflix African Series You Need To Watch – 2020

Netflix African series is not your regular African TV series, these are heavily funded and up to standard, just as many Hollywood sequels.

The streaming giant gave its focus to Made in Africa content with the intention of showing to the world on their esteem platform. Netflix is available on the web via netflix.com.

  1. Queen Sono

    Queen Sono is a South African TV series showing on Netflix, this sequel tells the tale of a South African orphan spy who is battling through a lot including why her mother was murdered, her love life her career as a spy. This was released in 2020.

    The Masire brothers come face-to-face with a supernatural family curse while a web of betrayal threatens to destroy them. Kings of Jo’Burg came out December 2020.

  3. Blood & Water

    Blood & Water is a South African TV series based on a teen who sets out to prove whether a private-school swimming star is her sister who was abducted at birth.

  4. Dérè: An African Tale

    Dérè: An African Tale is a Nigerian love and drama TV sequel. This series came out in 2016.

  5. Journey of an African Colony

    Journey of an African Colony takes us through a timeline of how Nigeria was formed. From the colonial masters to the founding fathers, truths will be told, myths will be debunked and tables will be broken. This came out in 2020.


South Africa was the first African country to have it’s Netflix original series. Netflix has gradually been working its way into the African homes by making major moves towards garnering more African patronage. In 2015, the US media streaming company paid $12 million for the global distribution of “Beasts of No Nation,” which starred the multitalented Idris Elba.
