First official skate board park in Ghana is about to be opened in Dzorwulu, Accra

Skate lovers in Ghana are about to get their first-ever skate park. This is an international project by Virgil Aboh, American-Ghanaian designer and Louis Vuitton’s artistic director.

The news of Ghana having its first official skate park was reported on Vogue, the skate park is set to be launched this late December and expected to open fully in the capital somewhere July 2021.

This happens to follow various Ghanaian skate scenes that caught international attention. American-Ghanaian designer Virgil Abloh, who also serves as Louis Vuitton’s menswear artistic director, is part of this major international project.

Other collaborators on this project also include NGO Surf Ghana and the pan-African fashion label, Daily Paper Clothing. Ghana’s first official skate park has been aptly named “Freedom Skate Park”.

Features of Freedom Skate Park

Freedom Skate Park is set to be a state of the art skate park that comes with Wi-Fi. Sandy Alibo, Surf Ghana’s founder disclosed that he’s always had a vision for the skate park since 2016, he just waited for the right project. Ghana’s major skate crew Skate Nation caught the eyes of Virgil Abloh through a 2017 Vogue article that celebrated Skate Nation’s punk style.

As reported earlier on Hot New Hip Hop, Abloh will be a significant part of the design of the skate park through his own studio Alaska Alaska. The Skate park will reportedly also sell skateboards and other skating equipment.
